Our History

In 2022, AFC Walcountians turns 25 years old. Formed in 1997 as Epsom Dynamos, the club later became fully incorporated as part of Walcountians Sports Club and officially became known as AFC Walcountians. From those small beginnings as a single junior side, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary as a football club by having 19 youth sides for boys and girls, two competitive adult male sides, a social Vets side, as well as offering walking football sessions. We are proud of our heritage, and the football club we have built from scratch over the last quarter of a century. At our heart, we are a friendly, family-oriented grassroots club that serves its local community. We hope to continue growing, and providing continued footballing opportunities, for many years to come.

Our Accreditation

We are now a Three Star England Football Accredited Club, the highest level of accreditation possible, which reflects the hard work of many volunteers over the last 25 years

Youth Football

For 2022/23, our Youth Section will have 19 sides, ranging from Under 8 to Under 18, and including both boys’ and girls’ teams. Our Development Sides cover the age groups from Under 8 to Under 10, whilst our Competitive Sides are from Under 11 upwards. Our boys’ teams compete in the Surrey Youth League (SYL), and our Girls’ teams compete in the Surrey County Women and Girls Football League (SCWGFL), whilst many teams participate in various tournaments across Surrey and South London during the off-season. We are committed to providing a safe, family friendly environment for all to play and enjoy football. We have codes of conduct that all Managers, Players, Parents, Spectators and Club Officials must abide by, and all our coaches meet safeguarding requirements, and must be qualified coaches in order to run a youth side.

Adult Football

Having always been dedicated to youth football, with no competitive senior section at the club, AFC Walcountians launched its first ever senior side for the 2015/16 season. For the 2017/18 season the club made the transition to the Surrey South Eastern Combination League to continue their progress, and it was a breakthrough year. A dramatic last day title decider saw a decisive point secured to clinch the SSEC Junior Division 1 title. Success has followed in the following years. In 2018/19 a second adult side, mainly consisting of graduates from one of the club’s successful youth sides, was formed. A Covid-19 curtailed 2019/20 season was the precursor to a highly successful 2020/21 campaign. The First Team comprehensively won the SSEC Intermediate Division 1, gaining promotion to the Surrey Premier County Football League (Step 7 of the National League System). The Reserve side had an equally successful season, losing just one league game en route to comfortably winning the SSEC Junior Division 4 title. In 2021/22 the First Team secured a respectable finish in their first season competing in Step 7 football, and hope to continue to progress over the coming seasons.

Walking Football

Since introduced at the club a few years ago, walking football has become an increasingly popular addition to our football collective. We currently run a weekly session - open to all - which involves a friendly match between a diverse mix of our members, as well as an opportunity to get to know a few new faces in the clubhouse afterwards.

Facilities

We are lucky to enjoy superb training and social facilities, with nine grass pitches of various sizes at our home ground to accommodate our adult and youth teams.

Events

We host several fundraising events every year, including our annual youth tournament that attracts dozens of teams from Surrey, London and the surrounding areas over a weekend in August.
