Our history

The club’s origins date back to 1860 as Chipstead Cricket Club, who played at the same High Road ground where the club plays today. Former pupils of Wallington County Grammar School formed Old Walcountians Cricket Club soon after WW2. The club’s two Saturday teams played for many years in the Slazenger League and then the Surrey Championship. In January 1974, Chipstead Cricket Club merged with East Coulsdon Cricket Club. In 2004 a third merger with Old Walcountians CC added the final part to the club’s name, and the new club – now with two excellent grounds – was born.

Our Accreditation

The Club is accredited with the ECB Clubmark, and enjoys support from Surrey County Cricket Club and the England & Wales Cricket Board.

Adult Cricket

The club has four adult teams on Saturdays throughout the season, with all playing in the Surrey Championship. The First XI plays in second tier (Division One) of the Surrey Championship. We also field a Sunday team which plays friendly games against village teams across Surrey and Sussex.

Youth Cricket

The club has a popular Colts section for boys and girls aged between six and 16 years. In 2022 the club fielded sides in the Surrey Junior Leagues across six age groups, and hopes to start girls teams in the near future. Our philosophy centres on improvement, participation and enjoyment. The Saturday Fourth XI and Sunday XI offer an introduction to adult cricket for the older colts, with opportunities to progress as they develop, and our first XI consists of five former colts. We have several ECB Level 2 qualified coaches to aid our players’ development and build the future success of the club.

Our facilities

The main ground at High Road, in the heart of Chipstead Village, and it is a firm favourite for hosting Surrey Over 60s and 70s matches along with Surrey Ladies Development teams. In 2010 to mark the 150th anniversary, a new clubhouse was opened to match the splendid surroundings of rustic Surrey greenbelt. Our second ground is the scenic Clockhouse ground, where the rest of the Walcountians sports sections play.
